THE BATTLE AGAINST AI MUSIC THEFT HEATS UP

Universal Music Group and Sony Music have each partnered with SoundPatrol, a research lab specializing in audio technology, to combat copyright infringement in the age of AI-generated music. The partnership introduces neural fingerprinting technology, an advanced system capable of identifying not just exact audio matches, but also covers, remixes, and derivative works created using artificial intelligence.
According to an official statement, the technology uses “neural embeddings” that analyze the musical semantics of songs essentially understanding the DNA of sound. This collaboration marks a major step in protecting artists’ intellectual property as the music industry navigates the rapid rise of generative AI.
